Setting up your Home Computer and Internet

1. Get Know Your Computer
   It helps to understand what the different parts of the computer do and what they are called.
2. Determine an Ideal Location
   Select an open space with access to a power outlet and make sure you will be comfortable.
3. Install Important Software
   Including productivity programs, antivirus software, a web broswer and additonal programs you will need.
4. Connect to the Internet There are several providers that will help you to get started online. Click on “Find a Provider” for information on providers in your area.
5. Other Considerations If you have multiple computers in your household or have a lap top that you would like to move from room to room, purchasing a modem from your internet provider and a wireless router from an electronic or home office store will enable you to access the internet throughout your home. Sometimes, internet providers provide these items for free.
